A proto-node is a community that has committed to preparing for Integral before the software exists. Registration is not a legal or financial commitment. It is a public declaration of intent and an entry point into the development community.

What proto-nodes do during Phase 1 is simple: study the build as it unfolds and offer help when possible. Knowing there are people and communities in different regions that recognize the value of this work helps sustain the energy needed to bring it into being. And once something workable and coherent is put forward, it will be freely available. Even an early commitment—simply expressing an interest in embracing Integral within your local community by documenting a potential node—can inspire those working against the grain to make this happen, because it affirms that genuine social support exists.
